This advanced course focuses on Power Electronics systems essential to the design and operation of modern UAVs and eVTOLs. Learn about the core technologies that enable energy-efficient flight — from semiconductor devices and motor control strategies to thermal management and wireless charging systems. Designed for engineers and professionals, this course provides deep insights and hands-on experience with real-world powertrain systems in electric aviation.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will be equipped to:

  • Understand and apply power semiconductor devices (MOSFETs, IGBTs)
  • Analyze various battery chemistries used in UAVs (Li-ion, LIPO, Li-S, Solid-State)
  • Design and simulate DC-DC converter topologies
  • Select and work with UAV-grade motors: BLDC, PMSM, SRM
  • Implement motor control using Field-Oriented Control (FOC) and Direct Torque Control (DTC)
